The Prime Minister of Israel, Benjamin Netanyahu, has expressed his commitment to normalizing relations with Saudi Arabia. He is convinced that peace between the countries is achievable.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Reuters.

During a press conference with U.S. President Donald Trump in Washington, the Israeli Prime Minister told reporters that he is dedicated to achieving peace between his country and Saudi Arabia.

"I believe that peace between Israel and Saudi Arabia is not only possible, but I think it will happen," Netanyahu stated.

According to the Israeli Prime Minister, he is focused on reaching this goal.

"I know that the president (U.S. President Donald Trump) is committed to this, and I believe that the leadership of Saudi Arabia is interested in it. Therefore, we will give this a good chance, and I think we can achieve success," Netanyahu declared.

Relations Between Israel and Saudi Arabia

It was previously reported that although Saudi Arabia does not officially have diplomatic relations with Israel, on September 10, 2023, Israeli diplomats officially visited the country for the first time to participate in a UNESCO World Heritage Committee meeting.

The main issue in the relations between Riyadh and Jerusalem is the fact that Saudi Arabia supports the creation of an independent state for the Palestinians, while Israel opposes this.

It is also worth noting that following the attack by the Islamist group Hamas from the Gaza Strip on Israeli territory in October 2023, the Saudi Arabian Foreign Ministry stated that the war began "as a result of the ongoing occupation and deprivation of the Palestinian people of their legitimate rights."

On October 14 of last year, Riyadh suspended negotiations to normalize relations with Israel, with the U.S. acting as a mediator.

Additionally, it was reported that about a year ago, Saudi Arabia resumed negotiations with the U.S. to establish defense cooperation, which had been halted due to the outbreak of war between Israel and Hamas. According to media reports, the administration of then-U.S. President Joe Biden intended to provide a "push" for achieving a peace agreement between Saudi Arabia and Israel.

In August 2024, Israeli media reported that Netanyahu decided to delay the normalization of relations with Saudi Arabia until after the U.S. presidential elections in November.
