Ukrainian Paralympic swimmer Roman Bondarenko failed a doping test during the 2024 Paralympic Games in Paris. His blood was found to contain prohibited substances—methamphetamine and amphetamine. This was reported by the publication InsideTheGames.
It is noted that following the doping test results, the Ukrainian athlete received a 3-year sanction from the International Paralympic Committee.
The published statement indicates that the detected traces pertain to methamphetamine and amphetamine, both of which are listed as prohibited substances by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) for 2024 under class S6A (non-specified stimulants).
Bondarenko was provisionally suspended on September 6, 2024, pending the resolution of his case, and he acknowledged the violation of anti-doping rules. As a result of his infraction, the Ukrainian athlete will be barred from participating in competitions and other sporting events (except for permitted anti-doping education or rehabilitation programs) for three years until September 5, 2027.
The results he achieved in the S2 final for the 200 meters freestyle among men and other events at the Paris Paralympic Games will be disqualified, with all resulting consequences, including the forfeiture of any medals, points, and prizes.
Recall that on December 17, media reported that a doping test of Ukrainian football player Mykhailo Mudryk, taken in October, revealed a prohibited substance. The athlete has sought legal assistance.
Sports journalist Volodymyr Zverov reported that if the anti-doping rule violation is confirmed, Mudryk could face a 4-year disqualification.
