According to Ukrainian activist Serhiy Sternenko and Russian "war correspondents," on January 23, North Korean 122-mm multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS) were spotted in the Kursk region, camouflaged as civilian trucks.
These vehicles, resembling ordinary vans and dump trucks, carry a hidden arsenal of 12 122-mm rocket tubes each, which can be deployed through retractable and sliding roofs.
These systems were first showcased during a military parade in North Korea in 2023. Now, they are reportedly appearing within the Russian army.
A Russian "war correspondent" sarcastically commented on the presence of these systems, stating: "North Korean truck-based MLRS in Kursk region. Arrived for training," while sharing a video of the equipment in Russia.
Camouflaging as civilian vehicles allows the MLRS to blend in with non-military surroundings, making them harder to detect and target.
Background. Earlier, the head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine Kyrylo Budanov reported that Russia received 148 KN-23 ballistic missiles from North Korea in 2024, which are actively used to strike Ukrainian territory, with another 150 planned for delivery in 2025.
