US President Donald Trump suggested that Microsoft is in talks to acquire TikTok, and he would like to see a "price war" for the application.

According to Reuters.

"I would say so," Trump told reporters when asked if Microsoft is negotiating to buy the app. "There’s a lot of interest in TikTok. A lot of interest in TikTok."

This is already the second time Microsoft has considered buying TikTok. During his first term, Trump ordered TikTok to separate its American version from ByteDance for national security reasons. In 2020, Microsoft was the most successful bidder, but negotiations soon fell apart, and over time, Trump ceased to pressure for TikTok's sale.

A week ago, Trump announced that he is in discussions with several parties about purchasing TikTok and plans to make a decision regarding the app in a month.

As reported by Reuters, the artificial intelligence startup Perplexity AI recently proposed a merger with TikTok. In this scenario, the US government could receive up to half of the new company in the future.

Recall that US President Donald Trump signed an order that postpones the ban on the popular TikTok application for 75 days, which was set to be shut down on January 19.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that US President Donald Trump stated on January 25 that he is in talks with interested parties regarding the purchase of TikTok and is likely to make a decision about the platform within the next 30 days.
