Mexico has rejected a request from the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump to allow a military plane, which is deporting migrants, to land in the country.

This is reported by NBC News and Reuters citing sources.

The day before, U.S. military aircraft made two similar flights to Guatemala, with each flight carrying about 80 migrants. However, another flight of the C-17 transport plane never took off as it was scheduled for Mexico.

In such deportation flights, the U.S. utilizes military aviation due to the state of emergency declared by Trump.

The Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not disclose why the American plane was not allowed to land in the country. At the same time, they stated that they have "very good relations" with the U.S. government and are cooperating with Americans "with respect to our sovereignty" on a number of issues, including migration.

"When it comes to repatriation, we will always welcome the arrival of Mexicans on our territory with open arms," the Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated.

After Trump's return to the White House, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum sought to avoid escalating tensions with the U.S. and expressed openness towards hosting returning Mexican citizens.

At the same time, she disagrees with mass deportations. According to the politician, Mexican migrants are vital to the U.S. economy.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that American media outlets are stating that raids to detain and deport illegal migrants living in the U.S. could begin as early as the first day of the new Trump administration's tenure.
