Investigators have announced suspicions of illegal weapon possession against a 17-year-old boy who appeared in provocative videos where young people blocked traffic in central Kyiv while listening to the song "I Am Russian" by the Russian propaganda artist Shaman. This was reported by the capital's police on Facebook.
Law enforcement officials noted that as a result of the investigation, they identified all participants featured in the video.
"Searches were conducted at the residences of the minors. In particular, one of them was found in possession of a weapon and ammunition. According to the results of the conducted examinations, the seized pistol is classified as a firearm," the police stated.
They added that the 17-year-old is being charged under part 1 of article 263 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine for illegal possession of a firearm. The sanctions for this article provide for up to seven years of imprisonment.
Recall that on January 10, a video surfaced on social media showing young people blocking traffic in central Kyiv while listening to a song by the Russian propaganda artist Shaman, "I Am Russian." On the same day, law enforcement identified the names of all six participants in the video. One of the participants had previously appeared in similar videos using Russian music and had been held accountable. The court imposed a sentence of probation supervision for one year.
The next day, the young people claimed that they called the police themselves. They posted audacious messages on their social media, asserting that they had been slandered and promised to give a comment to "one very large publication."
Subsequently, searches were conducted at the minors' locations, where pistols were seized. One was a traumatic weapon, registered to one of the minor's parents. The other was a pneumatic gun, which does not require a permit.
