A separate intelligence agency in South Korea stated that North Korea is involved in the war in Ukraine and has decided to send 12,000 soldiers, including a special forces unit.
The Yonhap news agency reported, citing its sources, that North Korea has decided to deploy four brigades, including a special forces unit, and that troop movements have already begun.
South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol held an emergency security meeting with key representatives from intelligence, military, and national security to discuss the involvement of North Korean troops in Russia's war against Ukraine.
The South Korean presidential office stated that Seoul, along with its allies, has been closely monitoring the deployment of North Korean troops to Russia since the early stages. However, it did not provide any intelligence information to confirm the troop deployment or their involvement in combat operations.
It should be noted that in recent days it has become known that North Korea plans to send troops to Ukraine. According to Western media, North Korean officers are already present in the occupied territories of Ukraine.
As noted by the head of the GUR of the Ministry of Defense, Kyrylo Budanov, about 11,000 military personnel from North Korea are set to start fighting in Ukraine as early as November.
President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that North Korea is preparing a contingent in Russia. This involves not only infantry but also other military personnel from various branches of the armed forces.
According to sources from RBK-Ukraine, Russia wants to create a separate Buryat battalion from North Korean soldiers.
