The leader of North Korea, Kim Jong Un, has ordered full combat readiness for the use of nuclear weapons following a test launch of strategic cruise missiles of the "submarine-to-ground" class on February 26.
This was reported by the state agency of the DPRK, KNCA.
Media sources indicate that the new test launch of North Korean missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons took place over the sea off the western coast of the Korean Peninsula, with the missiles flying an oval trajectory of 1,587 km.
According to the agency, the test was intended to warn "enemies who seriously violate security and contribute to escalating confrontation," as well as to demonstrate "the readiness of various nuclear operation means."
Kim Jong Un stated that the duty of North Korea's nuclear weapons is to "protect national sovereignty and security by enhancing the combat readiness of nuclear forces and full preparedness for their use." He believes that "what is guaranteed by powerful strike capability is the most sophisticated deterrence and defense capability."
As reported by Reuters, North Korea has been developing strategic cruise missiles designed to deliver nuclear warheads for several years.
Submarine-to-ground class missiles typically evoke less concern and condemnation from the international community than ballistic missiles, as they are not officially prohibited by UN Security Council resolutions, the media clarifies.
