The head of European diplomacy, Kaia Kallas, has invited the new U.S. Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, to Brussels. She proposed that he participate in a meeting with EU representatives.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing a statement from Kallas, which is cited by The Guardian.
The EU's chief diplomat extended an open invitation to the new U.S. Secretary of State to take part in a meeting with European Union representatives in Brussels.
"In my letter to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, I extended him an open invitation to join one of our meetings as soon as possible," Kallas wrote to the foreign ministers of EU countries.
EU officials have noted to the publication that there has been no response from Rubio yet.
Western media reported that the EU is concerned about abrupt decisions from Donald Trump following his return to the White House. Trump has threatened to impose additional tariffs on EU member states. Brussels has stated its readiness to respond to this.
Additionally, the U.S. President accuses European countries of spending less on aid to Ukraine in its war with Russia.
Furthermore, Trump demands an increase in defense spending to 5% of GDP from other NATO members, most of whom are EU members.
