On January 6, according to the New Julian calendar, the Baptism was celebrated in Mykolaiv region. In Mykolaiv, people gathered at the Cathedral of the Kashperivska Icon of the Mother of God to bless the water and take communion, reports Suspilne.
Mykolaiv and Boryslav Metropolitan Volodymyr urged the faithful not to waste the blessed water.
“Keep it, drink it on special days when you are ill. Wash your face with it, and today drink this water all day long. Do not drink tap water or store-bought water; drink this water,” the metropolitan said.
A local resident, Olena, visited the cathedral to collect the blessed water. She mentioned that she drinks the holy water when she feels down.
“When I face challenges, when I need God's help, when I feel a thirst for God, this drop is His,” she shared.
Another local resident, Kateryna, sprinkles water from the church around her home every year. For her family, Baptism is a significant holiday.
“It is a major event, and it means a lot to me and my family. We always attend this holiday to collect water,” Kateryna stated.
