The Yemeni Houthis have released the crew of the cargo ship Galaxy Leader, which they seized under the Bahamian flag off the coast of the Red Sea in Yemen in 2023. Among the crew members are citizens of Ukraine.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Associated Press.
As stated, the crew was handed over to Oman in support of the ceasefire in the war in Gaza between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas.
According to AP, a total of 25 individuals were freed - citizens from the Philippines, Bulgaria, Romania, Ukraine, and Mexico.
It should be noted that Ukraine has not yet officially commented on the release of its citizens from Yemeni captivity.
Recall that in November 2023, Yemeni Houthis seized the cargo ship Galaxy Leader with an international civilian crew in the Red Sea. The vessel was sailing under the Bahamian flag.
