“Out of 300 military personnel, 15% are suffering from tuberculosis,” - said the head of the health department in Mykolaiv.
In Mykolaiv, among the 300 military personnel who underwent tuberculosis screening, 15% were found to have the disease.
This information was shared by Irina Shamray, head of the Mykolaiv City Council Health Department, during the program “Dialogue.”
The official emphasized that soldiers are in conditions that facilitate the spread of tuberculosis.
- Currently, the situation with tuberculosis is very serious. It cannot be anything but serious because our soldiers are exposed to unfavorable weather conditions. In summer, it’s heat, and in winter, it’s extreme cold, dampness, and so on. Nutrition is not at its best level in certain conditions. This contributes to the spread of tuberculosis, - said Irina Shamray.
Additionally, she highlighted that medical institutions in Mykolaiv are prepared to treat tuberculosis patients.
- We see that, for instance, out of 300 patients who were examined at our “Center for Socially Significant Diseases,” 15%, referring to military personnel, have this disease – tuberculosis. We are ready to treat them, and we are accepting them for treatment, - Shamray stated.
