The Institute of National Memory recommends dismantling two monuments in Mykolaiv

The Ukrainian Institute of National Memory has requested the removal of the "Monument to the Victims of Armed Conflicts during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921" and the "Monument to Alexei Mikhailovich Gmyrev," both located in Mykolaiv, from the State Register of Immovable Monuments and from public spaces.

This information was revealed in a response from the Department of Culture and Protection of Cultural Heritage of the Mykolaiv City Council to a request from "Novosti-N."

According to a letter from the Ministry's Department of Cultural Heritage, the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory has recommended excluding several Mykolaiv monuments from the State Register, dismantling them, and removing them from public spaces. However, Yuri Lyubarov, head of the culture department of the Mykolaiv City Council, emphasized that the decision to remove monuments from the State Register can only be made by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine. As of now, no decision has been made.

He also clarified that these monuments are managed by the municipal enterprise of the city council, "Mykolaiv Parks."

"The cultural heritage objects in Mykolaiv, mentioned in the letter, belong to communal property and are on the balance of the municipal enterprise of the Mykolaiv City Council, 'Mykolaiv Parks.' Therefore, their future after a possible decision to remove them from public space will be resolved in collaboration with the deputies of the Mykolaiv City Council. The cost of the relocation work will be determined by the client of the works - the owner of the object," the culture department's response stated.

The "Monument to the Victims of Armed Conflicts during the Ukrainian Revolution of 1917-1921" is located in Admiral Square, near the Mykolaiv Shipbuilding Plant.

The monument to Alexei Gmyrev is situated in the square near the Vasyl Sukhomlynskyi National University.
