More than 200 blocked websites featuring Russian channels have been removed from Google search results. This action was a response to an official request from Lithuania.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing LRT.lt.
According to the Lithuanian publication, the blocking of websites that were sanctioned by the European Union resulted from an official request by the Lithuanian Radio and Television Commission.
"This means that if a user attempts to access a blocked website by entering its address in the Google search bar, the site will not appear in the results," clarified the LRTBC.
This decision is part of the effort to combat the propaganda of Russian TV channels that spread disinformation. According to the commission, this is not the first instance of collaboration with Google. Previously, the company removed websites at the request of the LRTBC for copyright violations.
It is worth noting that in November of last year, Russia fined Google 20,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 dollars.
More details about this unusual fine and how it was calculated can be found in RBK-Ukraine's article.
We also reported that last year, YouTube blocked more than 40 regional channels of the Russian state television and radio broadcasting company.
Following the YouTube block, Google completely disabled monetization in Russia.
