Pentagon chief on the Ukraine war: Russia has certain advantages, but it does not hold complete dominance.

Russia does not possess all the advantages in the war against Ukraine, as it may appear. The Kremlin is facing an increasing number of challenges that will complicate its attempts to solidify its "successes".

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, as quoted by Bloomberg.

He noted that even if the Russians manage to gain everything from the war in Ukraine, it will come at a significant cost in the future.

"There is a belief that Russia has the upper hand here and holds all the cards. It does have some advantages, but it does not completely dominate this equation. And if it gets what it wants, it will be expensive in the future," said Austin, who is set to leave his position as Secretary of Defense soon.

He emphasized that this consideration should be taken into account by Donald Trump's team in any ceasefire negotiations.

Austin added that the Russians also face challenges, which is why they have turned to North Korea and Iran for weapons and personnel. Meanwhile, Ukraine continues to enhance its capabilities.

The Secretary of Defense pointed out that occupying large territories in Ukraine will require significant resources from Russia even in the event of a ceasefire.

Meeting in "Ramstein" Format

Let us remind you that today, January 9, the 25th meeting of Ukraine's allies will take place in Germany. Representatives of Joe Biden's administration will participate in the Contact Group for the Defense of Ukraine for the last time.

Poland has already stated that this may be the last meeting in this format, as the "Ramstein" format may change after a shift in power in the U.S.

Western media report that the U.S. has prepared a significant aid package for Ukraine, which will be announced during the "Ramstein" meeting.
