Ukraine offered its assistance to Slovakia following the halt of Russian gas transit, but the country's Prime Minister Robert Fico "arrogantly declined."
President Volodymyr Zelensky made this statement.
"It was an obvious mistake by Fico to believe that his shadowy schemes with Moscow could last indefinitely. We offered our support to the people of Slovakia during their adaptation to the lack of gas transit from Russia, but Fico himself arrogantly refused. Many in Europe warned him that doing nothing and waiting was not an option. Now he is trying to shift the blame onto someone else through PR, lies, and loud accusations," the post reads.
Zelensky believes that Fico "bet on Moscow, not on his own country, not on a united Europe, and not on common sense."
"This was a losing bet from the start. We hope that further diversification of energy supply sources to Europe, cooperation with the European Commission, as well as the implementation of President Trump’s policy to increase the supply of American gas to the continent will help overcome the problems arising from the shortsightedness of certain European figures," the president emphasized.
Recall that on January 10, Fico stated that he is sometimes "annoyed" by Zelensky, who "travels around Europe, begging and blackmailing others for money." The Slovak Prime Minister called for an end to this. Fico also reiterated his disagreement with the decision to halt Ukraine's transit of Russian gas and threatened to stop humanitarian aid.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that gas supplies to Slovakia were allegedly secured during Prime Minister Robert Fico's trip to Vladimir Putin in Moscow at the end of December, just before Ukraine halted gas transit.
