The nominees for the "Oscar-2025" have been announced — the most prestigious award in American cinema, which will be presented this March. The 97th Academy Awards ceremony has revealed those nominated for "Best Documentary Feature," among which is the film "Porcelain War," a co-production from the USA, Ukraine, and Australia, telling the story of three Ukrainian artists who remained in Kharkiv after the onset of the full-scale war. This was reported on January 23 on the Academy's page on X.

It is worth noting that the film was released in 2024 but has already garnered numerous awards and nominations at various international film festivals.

The plot unfolds in Kharkiv, Ukraine, where three artists — Slava Leontiev, his wife Anya Stasenko, and their friend Andrey Stefanov — stay in their hometown, despite it suffering from enemy attacks since the first days of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine. The film depicts how the artists combat the enemy not only with weapons but also through art, creating porcelain pieces and using them to beautify the destroyed homes.

The world premiere of "Porcelain War" took place at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2024, where the film won the Grand Jury Prize in the "US Documentary" category.

Subsequently, The Hollywood Reporter published a review of the film, noting that each frame "strikes with its visual metaphor, sometimes stunning, sometimes offensive, but mostly captivating."

"The responsibility of the artist to continue creating art in the darkest moments and the ability of art to add beauty and lightheartedness to this darkness are just some of the undercurrents of 'Porcelain War,'" the review states.

Additionally, the film about the war in Ukraine "Rock, Paper, Scissors" by British director of German descent Franz Baum received a nomination in the category "Best British Short Film." This was announced on January 16.
