"It was unfair": Zelensky claims Western promises to include Ukraine in NATO were false (video).

Ukrainian President Zelensky believes that the weak stance of Germany and the United States has fostered a negative perception among Western countries regarding Kyiv's accession to the North Atlantic Alliance.
"Это было несправедливо": Зеленский заявил, что обещания Запада о вступлении Украины в НАТО оказались ложными (видео).

The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, stated that several Western countries did not support Ukraine's NATO membership. The head of state declared this during a meeting with representatives of the International Media Council.

The president mentioned that some countries had an "opaque policy" regarding the invitation for Kyiv to join the North Atlantic Alliance.

"They did not support us in NATO. And it was just false words that 'Yes, Ukraine will be in NATO.' This was unfair to Ukraine and Ukrainians," Zelensky said.

The head of state is also convinced that such an attitude towards Kyiv was influenced by the "weak position of Germany and the United States," which played into the hands of the Russian Federation.

"They had a dialogue with the Russians, and I believe they [Germany and the USA] lost that dialogue. They lost because they appeal to some past agreements with the Russians," the President of Ukraine added.

Earlier, it became known what Zelensky discussed at the forum in Davos. The President of Ukraine considers Europe an important geopolitical player but acknowledges its military weakness against Russia.

Later reports indicated how the USA and Europe maintained contacts with Russia at the intelligence level throughout the three years of the war. The president mentioned that a situation where leaders do not communicate, but intelligence agencies maintain constant contact, may suit the Russian side.
