The energy units No. 3 and No. 4 of the Khmelnytsky Nuclear Power Plant, which are planned for completion, will operate on fuel supplied by the American company Westinghouse, or on fuel produced in Ukraine using Westinghouse technology, similar to all other operational nuclear units.
This information was reported by the press service of Energoatom.
It is noted that this provision is outlined in government bill No. 11146, which proposes to permit construction work at the KhNPP. The company added that Ukraine has definitively abandoned the purchase of Russian nuclear fuel. Since 2022, 100% of all fuel procurements have been made from the American company Westinghouse.
Previously, nuclear energy expert Olga Kosharnaya wrote that for the reactors Energoatom plans to purchase from Bulgaria, the fuel is supplied solely by the Russian company TVEL. According to her, due to the technical specifics of the fuel assembly for such a reactor installation, Westinghouse needs to develop new fuel.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the parliamentary committee on energy supported amendments to bill No. 11392 regarding the purchase of reactors for the KhNPP from Bulgaria. These reactors were bought by the Bulgarians from Russia.
