Former Economy Minister Milovanov aims to acquire "Mohyla" University: what are his reasons behind this move?

Timofey Milovanov believes that the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy would benefit more if it transitioned into a private educational institution. He suggests that funding for its acquisition could be raised from concerned citizens.
Бывший министр экономики Милованов планирует приобрести "Могилянку": какие цели он преследует?

Former Minister of Economy, ex-advisor to the President's Office, and head of the Kyiv School of Economics (KSE) Tymofiy Milovanov reflected on the possibility of purchasing the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy from the state, inspired by the strategic ideas of the new U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the acquisition of Greenland. He wrote about this on his Facebook, explaining that this could enhance the prestige and influence of the educational institution.

"Make Mohylianka Great Again!" — wrote Milovanov, echoing Trump’s trademark slogan "Make America Great Again."

The economist noted that for the Ministry of Education, "Mohylianka" is unprofitable, while KSE, as a private educational foundation, would be able to manage the institution more effectively.

Milovanov emphasized that the Ukrainian Catholic University (UCU) in Lviv and the school where he serves as president have become top universities precisely because of their ability to move and act swiftly and efficiently as private institutions.

Moreover, students who cannot afford tuition will study for free thanks to donations from benefactors. Therefore, if KSE acquires "Mohylianka," the conditions for students will only improve, Milovanov announced.

To safeguard the educational institution from business and oligarchic influence, he suggests raising funds for its purchase through donations from ordinary Ukrainians.

"Just as Trump seriously wants to buy Greenland, I seriously want to buy Mohylianka," noted Tymofiy Milovanov.

Later, he added that excellent higher education is possible in Ukraine if there is a desire and vision for change.

"A people's university is possible! Let's make it happen! Let's make it great!" — proposed the economist.

Recall that in 2021, Milovanov shared how he got the nickname "idiot". He stated that he was very offended by this label.
