Environmental disaster in Mykolaiv: residents reported that oil extraction from the Southern Bug River has stopped

In Mykolaiv, residents of the Namyv neighborhood expressed concern over the visible cessation of oil extraction operations from the Southern Bug River. Officials from the Mykolaiv City Council's Department of Emergency Situations and Civil Protection stated that the efforts are simply not noticeable.

The department noted that work is ongoing, but its nature at this stage may not be sufficiently apparent:

“This entire process is stretched over a time frame. It does not mean that if representatives of the contracting organization gathered the pump and left, no one is doing anything. Work is being done and studied, but it may take some time. Unfortunately, this incident occurred during the war, and we understand that the owner was not fully prepared for this. Therefore, it is incorrect to say that no one is doing anything. Work is being done, but the process has reached a stage where the work is not readily visible to the naked eye, yet all measures will be taken to ensure everything is cleaned up,” the department reported.

They also analyzed water samples from the Bug Liman in Mykolaiv, where thousands of tons of vegetable oil have spilled.

It has been reported that 100 tons of oil have already been extracted from the Southern Bug in Mykolaiv.
