The first race of the World Cup stage took place in Oberhof, Germany – the women's sprint, featuring five Ukrainian athletes.
The best result was achieved by the experienced Yuliya Dzhima, who finished in 14th place.
The leader of the Ukrainian team hit all ten targets at the shooting range, but could not compete with the top athletes in terms of speed.
The only other Ukrainian besides Dzhima who managed to secure points was Khrystyna Dmytrenko, who finished in 40th place.
Debutante Daryna Chalyk made three mistakes but still managed to place among the top 60 athletes, allowing her to qualify for the pursuit race scheduled for Saturday.
However, Anna Kryvonos and Olena Horodna struggled in the race and will not compete on Saturday.
The victory in the race was claimed by French athlete Paula Bote, who finished more than half a minute ahead of her closest rivals.
Background. Let’s remind that Ukrainian biathletes made it into the top 20 of the last races of the year.
