On the night of February 26, the drones of the Ukrainian Defense Forces successfully targeted strategic sites of the Russian Federation located in occupied Crimea and the port of Tuapse in Krasnodar Krai. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of several military branches, strikes were carried out on two airfields and one oil refinery. The details of the nighttime attack on the Russian Federation were written by the General Staff of the Armed Forces on their Facebook page.
The command indicated that the unmanned systems forces, the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense, and other units were active during the night. The General Staff reported that several strategic targets in the Russian Federation were successfully hit. Three targets were identified that were struck on February 26:
The objects named by the General Staff can be located on Google Maps. The map indicates that to strike the airfields, the strike means had to cover 200-300 km, while reaching the oil refinery required nearly 500 km.
In a note from the Ukrainian command, there was a particular emphasis on the damage to the oil refinery. According to the General Staff, there is likely damage to the infrastructure of the facility located in the port of Tuapse. The capacity of the Tuapse oil refinery is 12 million tons per year. Notably, 90% of the refined products are exported, with some being used for equipping military equipment of the Russian Armed Forces. Satellite images of the area reveal that there are approximately a hundred tanks for oil and petroleum products on the premises of the facility and port, which are sold abroad by the Russians.
Meanwhile, on the Telegram channel of Russian media Astra, it was calculated that from January 1 to February 26, 2025, the Armed Forces of Ukraine attacked 28 fuel and energy facilities in Russia across 16 regions.
It is noteworthy that on the night of February 26, residents of the Russian city of Tuapse began posting videos of fireworks of unknown origin in the night sky. They claimed to hear explosions due to the drone strike. Furthermore, sounds of secondary detonations were later heard coming from the direction of the seaport.
The head of the NSDC's Central Operations Department, Lieutenant Andriy Kovalenko, confirmed that Ukrainian strike forces attacked the port of Russia. He added that not only oil from Russia passes through the docks, but also coal, mineral fertilizers, and grain. There are also military cargoes — equipment, ammunition, and fuel for the Russian Black Sea Fleet.
Additionally, attacks on the Tuapse oil refinery have occurred before. For instance, information can be found about attacks on February 25 and July 22, 2024.
As a reminder, on February 24, Russian media Mash reported that drones had exploded at the Ryazan oil refinery and showed footage of a possible hit. Meanwhile, on February 20, Newsweek reported that Ukraine had likely managed to shut down six Russian oil refineries.
