Last night, a local aviation factory in Smolensk was subjected to an airstrike. This facility is involved in the production of military aircraft.
This was stated by Andriy Kovalenko, the head of the Center for Countering Disinformation (CCD).
According to him, the joint-stock company "Smolensk Aviation Plant" (SMAP) is closely linked with other enterprises in the Russian defense industry. It supplies components and participates in cooperation for the development of modern aviation systems.
It is noted that the Smolensk Aviation Plant manufactures and upgrades military aircraft, including Su-25 attack aircraft. “Additionally, [the enterprise] provides major repairs and maintenance for aviation equipment, which allows Russia to maintain the combat readiness of outdated aircraft models,” Kovalenko explained.
“Every strike on such a factory will undermine Russia's ability to sustain its aviation in a combat-ready state,” he emphasized.
Previously, the governor of the Smolensk region, Vasyl Anokhin stated that Ukrainian drones had attacked the region. According to him, Russian air defense forces engaged the drones.
“Fires on the ground and on the roofs of some buildings were recorded due to the debris from the UAVs falling. Windows of residential buildings were also damaged. Operational services are working at the sites,” he wrote on Telegram.
Anokhin also reported that false information and videos about drone strikes on facilities and residential buildings in the Smolensk region were published on social media.
According to data from the Astra channel, debris from the downed drone fell on a residential high-rise building in Smolensk, causing a fire.
Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Armed Forces of Ukraine had killed and wounded 822,030 Russian servicemen, with 1,600 casualties in the last day.
