The Deep State claims that Russia has occupied Kurakhove, but the Armed Forces of Ukraine disagree with this assertion.

At OSUV "Khortytsia," they assert that they maintain the area around the thermal power station.
Глубинное государство утверждает, что Россия оккупировала Курахово, однако в Вооруженных силах Украины с этим не согласны.

The Ukrainian OSINT project Deep State reported that Russian forces have "occupied Kurakhove and advanced near Andriivka, Solone and Novosilky."

On January 6, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced the capture of Kurakhove; however, the Ukrainian command did not confirm the loss of the city.

Meanwhile, Ukrainian military officials assert that as of today, they continue to hold positions within Kurakhove. This was stated by Viktor Trehubov, a representative of the operational-strategic grouping of troops "Khortytsia," during a broadcast on "Suspilne. Studio."

According to him, the Armed Forces of Ukraine still maintain positions within Kurakhove, and the Russians have not fully occupied the city.

"According to my information, there are ongoing battles in the Kurakhove area. In particular, Ukrainian positions are held at the thermal power station that is part of Kurakhove, so we cannot currently say that Russian troops have completely taken the city. Although, of course, a large part of the city has simply been reduced to rubble. This must be acknowledged," Trehubov stated.

Before the full-scale war, approximately 18,000 people lived in Kurakhove, which was an important industrial center of southern Donbas.

Due to its location on the "Zaporizhzhia – Donetsk" highway, this settlement was also significant as a logistical hub for Ukrainian forces when they were engaged in battles near Marinka, Vuhledar, and Krasnohorivka.
