Nearly half of Danish citizens view the United States as a significant threat to their country. They are also opposed to Greenland becoming part of the U.S.
According to RBK-Ukraine, this is supported by survey data published by The Guardian.
The report states that the survey was conducted from January 15 to 22, involving over 1,000 participants. The survey revealed that 46% of Danes consider the U.S. a "very large threat" or a "fairly large threat" to Denmark.
This figure surpasses those who regard North Korea or Iran as threats—44% and 40%, respectively. However, the perceived threat from Russia remains significantly higher, with 86% of respondents identifying Moscow as a threat.
Among those surveyed, 78% expressed opposition to selling Greenland to the U.S., while 72% stated that the final decision should rest with Greenland, not Denmark.
It is worth noting that the overwhelming majority of Greenland's population opposed leaving the Kingdom of Denmark.
In 2019, Trump claimed that U.S. control over Greenland is an "absolute necessity" for international security. After winning the 2024 election, he again discussed purchasing the island and did not rule out using force to persuade Denmark to transfer the territory.
Recently, Trump stated that the U.S. would gain control over Greenland, asserting that the local population desires this. His allies introduced a bill for the "purchase of the island." In response, Greenland's Prime Minister Múte Egede remarked that the island seeks to strengthen ties with the U.S., but on its own terms, particularly regarding defense and the mining sector.
At the same time, as reported by Bloomberg, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen reached out to her European allies for assistance in countering Trump's demands to hand over Greenland.
We also noted that Frederiksen and Trump had a conversation prior to the inauguration. According to sources from the publication, Trump was "aggressive and confrontational" regarding Greenland.
Additionally, following Trump's statements, the Russian Federation deployed two strategic bombers, Tu-160, over neutral waters of the Arctic Ocean. The flight was reportedly scheduled.
