Checkbox has become the first PRRO provider to receive a compliance certificate for KSI: what does this mean?

The Ukrainian fiscalization service has successfully completed state certification for cybersecurity. This marks a significant precedent in Ukraine's PRRO segment and represents an important advancement for the entire industry.
Checkbox стал первым провайдером ПРРО, получившим сертификат соответствия КСЗИ: что это означает для пользователей.

In January, Checkbox, a leader in the market for software cash registers, announced that it has received a compliance certificate for the Information Protection System (KСЗІ) – the first instance in the history of the Ukrainian software cash register industry. The relevant announcement was published on the company’s page.

KСЗІ (comprehensive information protection system) refers to a set of engineering and organizational measures, as well as hardware and software tools aimed at protecting information systems (as defined by State Special Communications).

The KСЗІ compliance certificate is issued by accredited centers after a thorough multi-month examination of the infrastructure across various components. Its existence confirms that the client's system meets all state security standards – client data and internal business processes are securely protected from loss and unauthorized access.

KСЗІ Compliance Certificate for Software Cash Registers: Why It Matters

For software cash register providers, cybersecurity is a top priority: clients include Ukrainian businesses ranging from small entrepreneurs to large retail chains, and any system failure could cost reputation and lead to significant financial losses, affecting the economy as a whole. In contrast, a reliable cybersecurity system allows:

  • to prevent leaks of confidential client information and avoid unauthorized access to corporate data;
  • to protect critical information from loss due to technical malfunctions, the use of unlicensed applications, or human factors;
  • to minimize cyber threats through the implementation of security policies;
  • to maintain backup capabilities and data copies;
  • to strengthen the resilience of IT infrastructure against digital threats;
  • to foster collaboration with government services that traditionally have high cybersecurity requirements;
  • to enhance trust in their own services and build stronger relationships with others.

Stages of KСЗІ Compliance Certification

The requirements for system protection are outlined in Law No. 80/94-VR "On Information Protection in Information and Communication Systems," and the certification procedure for KСЗІ compliance is conducted according to the regulation on state expertise. This process is not quick and takes several months, with the expertise services available from accredited institutions.

In the first stage, general requirements for the system are established: specialists inspect it and identify vulnerabilities. The second stage focuses on creating a security policy and technical specifications that outline the protection architecture, while the third involves developing the KСЗІ project. The final step is the most complex and crucial – implementing the KСЗІ and analyzing the system with simultaneous correction of shortcomings.

After receiving certification, it is essential to maintain the infrastructure in proper condition, regularly update programs and equipment, and improve security policies, among other tasks. Only then can the highest level of protection for business clients' data be guaranteed.

Value for Business

Entrepreneurs using certified digital services gain significant strategic advantages:

  • reduction of costs for security measures and minimization of risks from digital attacks;
  • proactive protection that prevents critical threats at their inception;
  • enhanced trust from clients and partners due to increased attention to the confidentiality of their data and adherence to high cybersecurity standards.

Today, protecting information assets is not just a technical necessity but an essential element of reputation and success for every business, regardless of its size.
