Некоторые страны ЕС не поддерживают передачу замороженных активов России Украине, сообщает Politico.

A number of European Union countries and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen are opposed to transferring frozen assets from the aggressor country, Russia, to Ukraine.

According to Politico, this has been reported.

The publication notes that European countries could seize Russian assets as they remain on the sidelines of negotiations between the U.S. and Russia. This way, they may seek to secure their participation in these talks.

Countries opposing the transfer of assets to Ukraine include France, Germany, Italy, and Spain. Additionally, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is also against it.

Meanwhile, the Baltic states (Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia) and Northern European countries believe that the funds from frozen Russian assets should be immediately transferred to Ukraine. Furthermore, this position is supported by Poland, the Czech Republic, and the EU's chief diplomat, Kaja Kallas.

The publication highlights that those opposing this decision are concerned that asset confiscation could deter international investors and may deprive the EU of its greatest leverage in peace negotiations.

“If you unfreeze the assets and give them to Ukraine, you no longer have them, and you cannot use them as bargaining chips,” stated one diplomat from the opposing camp.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that the Verkhovna Rada adopted a resolution calling on parliaments, governments, and international organizations in connection with the third anniversary of Russia's full-scale invasion. A total of 244 deputies voted in favor.
