Barefoot and hungry: a family with five children was found living in a hut in Ternopil region (photos).

The children were sleeping on a worn mattress laid out on the ground, with no food in sight, while their mother smoked cigarette after cigarette.

In the Ternopil region, patrol police officers discovered a family with five children aged between 4 and 9 years living in a shack in a forested area. The children were sleeping on a dirty mattress and were barefoot. This was reported by the head of the public relations department of the Patrol Police of the region, Olesya Myalkovskaya.

"In my 9 years of work, I have seen many things, but I encountered something like this for the first time today. As always, a standard call for the mobile unit ended with an unusual report about a family with children living in what can only be described as a makeshift shelter. Upon arriving at the scene, and with difficulty locating the dwelling (a few sticks nailed together and covered with agricultural film), what I saw was even more shocking," she wrote.

The police officer mentioned that they arrived at the location at 11 AM. The family with five children aged 4 to 9 was living in the shack. They were essentially sleeping on the ground — on a filthy mattress, and the most alarming part was that they were walking around barefoot, without any shoes or socks.

Olesya Myalkovskaya also noted that there was no food at all, while the mother had cigarettes and was smoking them one after the other.

"I know that many might say she could have difficult life circumstances, that she found herself in a critical situation, or something else, but that is not an excuse. When asked what she had done to address this problem, where she had sought help, what actions she had taken, the only response was silence. Because, unfortunately, this is considered normal for them," the police officer wrote.

She added that the children were taken away and handed over to the workers of the Department of Family, Youth Policy, and Child Protection of the Ternopil City Council and to medical staff. The children were examined, washed, and fed.

Their future will be determined by special services.

Let us recall that in the USA, a 17-year-old girl escaped from a home where her parents tortured their 13 children. The girl spoke about her sisters who were kept chained to their beds, about how they were starved and allowed to bathe only once a year.

Previously, in the Lviv region, doctors saved a girl with an extremely rare diagnosis — a Galen vein aneurysm. This anomaly occurs in 1 in 25,000 newborns.
