HAMAS is likely to appoint Khalil al-Hayya, who resides in Qatar, as the successor to the slain leader Yahya Sinwar, killed by Israel.
This information comes from RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.
Al-Hayya delivered a televised speech on Friday, stating that he would assume the role of leader, at least temporarily. He vowed that Sinwar's assassination by Israel would serve as motivation to continue the struggle.
Clearly addressing the Israelis, Al-Hayya remarked that the hostages "will not return to you until the aggression in Gaza stops."
"Israel must leave Gaza, and Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails must be released," he stated.
Al-Hayya is seen as a proxy of Ismail Haniyeh, who has close ties to Iran.
It is worth noting that on October 17, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz confirmed that HAMAS leader Yahya Sinwar was eliminated. Israel emphasized that he was responsible for the attack on October 7.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared that evil "has suffered a heavy blow". However, according to Netanyahu, the task facing Israel "is not yet complete."
Yahya Sinwar became the new leader of HAMAS after Ismail Haniyeh was killed in Tehran on August 31.
