The basic military training (BMT) for students of higher educational institutions will commence in September 2025 and will consist of 300 academic hours.
This was announced by Deputy Minister of Defense Brigadier General of Justice Serhii Melnyk.
It is noted that the basic military training will consist of two parts:
“All students – both men and women – are required to complete the theory. However, the practical course is mandatory only for men who are fit for military service based on their health. Women will participate in the practical training only if they wish to do so and after undergoing a medical examination,” Melnyk stated.
According to the announcement, during the training, students will acquire fundamental knowledge in tactical, reconnaissance, and psychological preparation, first aid, and the basics of military discipline. Additionally, they will learn skills in handling weapons.
“After completing the BMT, students will take the military oath and receive a certificate along with a military accounting specialty,” the announcement states.

The law, in particular, provides for the systematic implementation of basic military training for students pursuing higher education.
Background. Previously, Mind reported that Zelensky signed a law regarding the registration of 17-year-old conscripts. Additionally, women who are fit for military service and wish to undergo basic military training are voluntarily registered for conscription.
