ISW analysts have examined the offensive operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Kursk region

The Ukrainian Defense Forces resumed offensive operations in the Kursk region on January 5. They have achieved tactical successes, although Russian advances have also been recorded.

This was reported by the Institute for the Study of War (ISW).

Russian sources state that the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted several mechanized attacks with a strength of approximately a company towards Berdin-Novosotnitsky (northeast of Sudzhi). All attacks were carried out in three waves using armored vehicles with a strength of about a battalion.

Additionally, Ukrainian military forces intensified offensive operations in the area of Leonidovo and conducted a reinforced mechanized attack with a platoon near Pushkarny (east of Sudzhi).

Locational data indicates that the Armed Forces of Ukraine advanced into the fields southwest and south of Berdin and entered the southern part of the settlement.

Russian sources report that as of January 5, the Armed Forces of Ukraine occupied Cherkasskoye Porechnoye, Martynovka, and Mikhailovka, and also entered the settlement of Novosotnitsky (just east of Berdin), advancing into the fields west of Yamskaya Stepa (directly northwest of Berdin) and west of Novaya Sorochina (to the north of Sudzhi and northwest of Berdin).

Furthermore, the Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted offensive operations in the Nikopol and Aleksandrovka areas and north of Russkaya Konoplya (east of Sudzhi) towards Pushkarny.

Sources in Russia claim that the new offensive operations of the Armed Forces of Ukraine may be a diversionary maneuver, making it difficult to assess whether these operations will be part of the main efforts.

At the same time, it has been reported that enemy advances were recorded southeast of Sudzhi. In particular, geolocation data indicates that Russian troops advanced in the western and southern parts of Makhnovka (just southeast of Sudzhi).
