The main airport in Syria, located in Damascus, will resume international flights starting Tuesday, January 7. Previously, commercial flights were halted due to the rebels' seizure of power in December.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing The Times of Israel.

"We announce that starting Tuesday, international flights will be accepted at Damascus International Airport and back," the state news agency SANA stated.

The publication referenced Ashhad al-Salibi, who heads the General Directorate of Civil Aviation and Air Transport.

"We assure Arab and international airlines that with the help of our partners, we have begun the process of restoring the airports in Aleppo and Damascus so that they can accommodate flights from around the world," he added.

Meanwhile, AFP reports that planes carrying international humanitarian aid and foreign diplomatic delegations are already landing in Syria. Additionally, domestic flights have resumed.

It should be noted that in December, the regime of Syrian dictator Bashar al-Assad fell. Within a few weeks, the rebels captured key cities in the country, including the capital, Damascus.
