President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky stated in an interview with the British television channel Sky News that Kyiv requested equipment for 10 military brigades, but the West has fully supplied only two and a half brigades.
“They talk about mobilization, but the real issue is with the 10 brigades that our partners have not equipped. I have been asking for this for more than a year, that we need to equip these brigades. We made this decision with the United States and European allies, and to date, Europe and the United States have fully equipped two and a half brigades,” – quotes Zelensky as reported by “Ukrainian Truth”.
According to him, Ukraine's problem lies in equipping servicemen with weapons and equipment, not in the number of troops available.
Earlier this week, media outlets reported that the U.S. is urging Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18. This idea has faced opposition in Kyiv.
“Someone asked me about mobilization, and I don’t want to claim that this is the position of some leaders in Europe. They say, young people are needed, and so on. And I responded: do you want someone to go to their death without weapons?” – Zelensky said in the interview with Sky News.
“And if European or American officials have ideas regarding the age of mobilization, I want to ask our partners to do their job while we do ours,” – added the President of Ukraine.
Background. It should be noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that during negotiations with Western partners, Ukraine is discussing the topic of mobilization and lowering the mobilization age.
Ukraine is lacking weapons and equipment for those already mobilized, stated ministry representative Georgiy Tikhiy, urging partners to assist with this.
“When we read sources claiming that Ukraine should mobilize more, and that this is the main problem – we have a different perspective. In our view, the announced aid, weapons, and equipment should arrive in Ukraine faster,” – noted Tikhiy.
