Sybiga urges NATO to extend an invitation for Ukraine to join the Alliance during the summit in Brussels, according to Reuters.

The event will take place next week.
Сибіга призывает НАТО предоставить Украине приглашение для вступления в Альянс на саммите в Брюсселе, сообщает Reuters.

Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga has urged NATO colleagues to extend an invitation to Kyiv to join the Western military alliance during the meeting in Brussels on December 3-4.

This is mentioned in a letter that has come to the possession of Reuters.

“The invitation should not be seen as an escalation. On the contrary, with a clear understanding that Ukraine's membership in NATO is inevitable, Russia will lose one of its main arguments for continuing this unjust war,” wrote Sybiga.

It is noted that receiving an invitation to join NATO is part of Volodymyr Zelensky's “victory plan.”

NATO diplomats say there is currently no consensus among Alliance members regarding an invitation for Ukraine. Any such decision would require the agreement of all 32 member countries of the Alliance.

Official Kyiv understands that there is “still no consensus” on the invitation to join the Alliance, but the letter aimed to send a strong political signal, Vice Prime Minister for NATO Olga Stefanishyna told Reuters. In his letter, Sybiga asserted that the invitation would be the correct response “to Russia's ongoing escalation of the war it has unleashed, the latest demonstration of which is the involvement of tens of thousands of North Korean troops and using Ukraine as a testing ground for new weapons.”

Diplomats stated that they do not see any changes in the positions of NATO countries – they are awaiting the stance of the new administration of newly elected U.S. President Donald Trump.

Background. Earlier, Mind reported that Zelensky is ready to end the “hot phase of the war” in exchange for the accession of Ukraine's unoccupied territories to NATO.
