“On October 3 of this year, the DPRK started supplying artillery systems to the Russian Federation. In total, over 100 units of various types of equipment have been moved, including: 170-mm self-propelled artillery systems M-1989 and 240-mm multiple launch rocket systems M-1991.

Additionally, the supply of large-caliber artillery ammunition and short-range ballistic missiles of the Kn-23/24 type from the DPRK to the Russian Federation continues (as of November this year, over 5 million units and 100 units respectively have been supplied),” HUR reported.

“As of today, over 60 units of 170-mm self-propelled guns M-1989 Koksan have been transferred from the territory of the DPRK to the territory of the Russian Federation, some of which were intended for delivery to the Saratov VAKU, likely for the purpose of training personnel. There is no information regarding the status of the mentioned artillery systems,” the agency added.

Background. It was previously reported that North Korea likely transferred self-propelled artillery systems (SPAS) to Russia.

The discussion involves long-range artillery systems M1989 Koksan with a 170-mm radius, which have a range of 40 km with conventional shells and 60 km with rockets.

M1989 Koksan are known for their slow loading speed – one to two shots per minute. They were only used once in real combat conditions – during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1990s.
