The exact date for the meeting between Trump and Putin has not yet been determined, but both parties will continue to work on it.

The negotiations between the American and Russian delegations have concluded in the Saudi capital, Riyadh, according to media reports.

The discussions took place at the royal residence.

The day before, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, presidential assistant for international affairs Yuri Ushakov, and head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev arrived in Riyadh.

The American side was represented by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, and Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff.

At the start of the negotiations, the Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud and National Security Advisor Musaid bin Mohammed Al-Aiban were also present at the table.

Kyiv is not involved in these talks. Washington has stated that discussions regarding Ukraine will occur in a second phase.

A potential meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin was discussed during the Russian-American negotiations in Riyadh, but it is unlikely to take place next week, Reuters reported, citing Ushakov.

“This issue was discussed; we will work to create conditions for such a meeting,” Ushakov stated.

Ushakov did not comment on the timeframe for such a meeting but, when asked about the possibility of it occurring next week, said, “That is unlikely.”

When asked if the presidents could meet before the end of February, Ushakov responded, “A solid effort is needed from the delegations of both countries. We are prepared for that, but it is still too early to talk about specific timeframes or dates for a meeting between the leaders.”

Ushakov also mentioned that the U.S. and Russia presented their approaches to resolving the Ukrainian conflict.

“Yes, we discussed and outlined our fundamental approaches and agreed that separate teams of negotiators will eventually make contact on this matter,” Ushakov was quoted by Interfax.

The delegations also agreed that the U.S. and Russia would consider each other's interests.

“We simply agreed that we would take each other's interests into account. At the same time, we also aim to promote bilateral relations, as both Moscow and Washington are interested in this,” Ushakov stated.

According to him, the negotiations went quite well.

“Quite well, in my opinion. Quite well,” he said.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov agreed during the negotiations to establish a consultation mechanism to eliminate "irritants" in Russian-American relations, Reuters reported, citing a representative from the American agency.

The Russian and U.S. delegations have started to listen to each other, but it is still too early to talk about compromises, said Kirill Dmitriev, head of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, after the negotiations in Riyadh, according to Reuters.

“I think it is currently too early to speak about compromises; one can say that the parties have begun to communicate with each other, started to listen to one another, and initiated a dialogue,” Dmitriev said.

Dmitriev also stated that Russia and the U.S. discussed future economic cooperation, including global energy prices.

Background. Previously, it was reported that negotiations between the U.S. and Russian delegations regarding a peaceful resolution in Ukraine had begun in Riyadh. Russia believes that "progress" in talks with the U.S. is possible within the next 2-3 months.
