The European Union intends to discuss providing Ukraine with an additional €5 billion in military aid, as stated in a draft document cited by Radio Free Europe.
It is expected that the ambassadors of EU member states will review the proposal in the coming days.
The aid package includes 1.5 million rounds of large-caliber artillery ammunition, air defense systems, precision long-range missiles, and drones.
The package also includes support for the restoration of Ukrainian brigades, particularly in training and equipping military personnel for them.
The draft document notes that part of the aid will be directed towards Ukraine's defense industry, and that defense manufacturers from the EU and Ukraine will collaborate on relevant initiatives.
The meeting of EU ambassadors is scheduled for Tuesday, February 18, in Brussels. The draft resolution emphasizes that “the European Union will provide military support to Ukraine as long as it is necessary, and as intensively as needed.”
Since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022, the EU has provided Ukraine with €134.5 billion in aid, including €48.5 billion in military assistance.
Meanwhile, Reuters reported that the Trump administration is seeking ways to encourage European countries to purchase more American-made weapons for Ukraine. According to sources cited by the publication, this is one of several initiatives to support arms supplies to Kyiv without using US budget funds.
Moreover, media reports indicate that the EU is preparing a defense package worth €700 billion for Ukraine, with its announcement postponed until after the elections in Germany on February 23.
