Since late August, during numerous operations in Iraq and Syria, American forces in the Middle East have killed 163 militants from the Islamic State group and captured another 33.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM).

It is noted that since August 29, over 95 operations named "Defeat ISIS" have been conducted. Some of these involved strikes in Syria. As a result, 163 terrorists were killed and 33 taken prisoner, including more than 30 ISIS leaders at high and mid-levels.

"These successful operations have resulted in the capture of a significant amount of enemy equipment, which may assist in future disruptions. Continuous pressure on ISIS leaders hinders their ability to act and plan attacks," the statement noted.

The head of CENTCOM, General Michael Eric Kurilla, emphasized that together with our coalition and Iraqi partners, "we will continue to aggressively pursue these terrorists and undermine their ability to conduct operations against U.S. interests, as well as those of our allies and partners."

U.S. Army Missions in Iraq and Syria

Despite the defeat of ISIS in 2019, "sleeper cells" continue to carry out attacks in Iraq and Syria. In recent years, the number of such assaults has begun to rise.

American military forces, along with security forces in Iraq and Syria, regularly conduct strikes and raids in these two countries to prevent the resurgence of the terrorist group.

There are approximately 900 U.S. troops in Syria, with another 2,500 in Iraq.

One of the most notable attacks occurred in late October when American forces struck camps in the Syrian desert and several top leaders of the group. At that time, 35 militants were eliminated.

On October 11, U.S. aviation struck ISIS camps in Syria.

At the end of August, U.S. military and Iraqi security forces conducted a raid in eastern Iraq, during which 15 ISIS terrorists were killed.
