On the eve of the second round of the presidential elections, citizens of Moldova have begun receiving anonymous messages containing death threats in large numbers.
This was announced by Moldova's Prime Minister Dorin Recean, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Point.
"Tonight, the Republic of Moldova is facing an unprecedented attack: people across the country are receiving anonymous phone threats of murder," Recean stated.
According to him, journalists, public figures, and ordinary citizens have received these threats.
"These acts of intimidation have one goal - to instill panic and fear, so that people are afraid to come out to vote," the Prime Minister of Moldova noted.
He emphasized that Moldovan state institutions "will ensure order and the protection of citizens," and urged citizens to participate in the elections on November 3.
Recall that on October 20, presidential elections and a referendum on the prospects of the country's accession to the European Union took place in Moldova.
According to the results of the first round of voting, the incumbent president Maia Sandu emerged victorious. Her candidacy was supported by 42.45% of voters.
However, since Sandu did not manage to secure 50% of the votes, a second round of presidential elections will be held. It is scheduled for November 3.
