The authorities of Georgia will not comply with one of the requirements for the resumption of movement within the EU. This concerns the repeal of the so-called "foreign agents" law.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing "First Channel".
The statement was made by Mamuka Mdinaradze, the secretary of the ruling party "Georgian Dream." Journalists asked whether "Georgian Dream" would repeal the law on "Transparency of Foreign Influence," which is also referred to as the "foreign agents" law, after the elections.
"No. You won't be pleased, but we will not repeal it," he replied.
According to him, if this law had not been adopted in Georgia, "there would be tens of thousands of people standing on Rustaveli Avenue right now."
"Both this law and the ban on propaganda (referring to the law prohibiting "LGBT propaganda") have been legitimized by the majority of the Georgian people," Mdinaradze stated.
Last Saturday, parliamentary elections were held in Georgia. During the voting, there were widespread ballot stuffing, violations, and scuffles.
According to the Central Election Commission of Georgia, the pro-Russian party "Georgian Dream," which has been governing the country for over 10 years, won the election. Four opposition parties crossed the 5% threshold and entered parliament, but they refused to recognize the election results. A protest took place in Tbilisi after the elections.
The European Commission, in its report on enlargement, noted that Georgia needs to change its course for further Euro-integration.
