US President Donald Trump has dismissed the head of the National Archives, Colleen Shogan, who is linked to his criminal case. It is currently unknown who will take her position.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing NBC News.
According to the publication, on Friday, White House Chief of Staff Sergio Ghor informed about the decision via social media platform X. He stated that the national archivist was removed at Trump’s instruction.
"At the direction of US President Donald Trump, the United States archivist was dismissed this evening. We thank Colleen Shogan for her service," Ghor wrote.
NBC added that by firing Shogan, Trump fulfilled a promise made in January to change the leadership of the agency involved in the criminal case. This refers to the case where Trump was accused of mishandling classified documents.
Ghor did not specify who will take over as archivist. A message on a LinkedIn page, which is presumably owned by Colleen Shogan, confirms the dismissal.
"This evening, President Trump fired me. No reason or cause was given. It has been an honor to serve as the 11th archivist of the United States. I have no regrets—I did everything I could for the National Archives and the American people every day," reads the statement.
It is worth noting that on the same day, February 7 (local time), the US president revoked access to classified information for his predecessor, Joe Biden.
Citing a report from Special Counsel Robert Hur in 2024, he stated that Biden suffers from "poor memory" and that even in his "best years," he cannot be trusted with confidential information.
"I will always protect our national security—JOE, YOU'RE FIRED. LET'S MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Trump concluded in his post on the Truth Social platform.
