The Special Envoy for Belarus at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Ihor Kyzym, who held the position of Ambassador of Ukraine to Belarus until June 2023, has resigned from diplomatic service.
He announced this on his Facebook page.
Kyzym mentioned that his decision to resign was made solely for personal reasons.
“Every person reaches a point when you realize that age takes its toll and you cannot fully dedicate yourself to your work. I cannot work any other way, and under the current circumstances, I consider it unfair to the service to which I have devoted almost my entire life,” he wrote.
Kyzym added that he summarized his work as Ukraine's representative in Belarus in a recent interview and expressed his intention to continue contributing in areas where his experience and expertise would be beneficial.
In an interview with “Ukrinform,” the diplomat stated that under Lukashenko's regime, the normalization of relations between Ukraine and Belarus is inherently impossible. At the same time, even after this, it is unlikely that democratic forces will come to power in the neighboring state and change the political direction.
Ihor Kyzym is 63 years old. From February 20, 2017, to June 22, 2023, he served as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to the Republic of Belarus.
