The International Criminal Court (ICC) condemned the sanctions imposed by U.S. President Donald Trump against the ICC on February 6.
This is stated in a statement published on the court's website.
“The ICC condemns the issuance by the United States of an executive order aimed at imposing sanctions against its officials and undermining its independent and impartial judicial work,” the message reads.
The International Criminal Court emphasizes that it “strongly supports its staff” and is committed to continuing to “deliver justice and hope to millions of innocent victims of atrocities worldwide in all situations it will address.”
“We call on our 125 member states, civil society, and all countries around the world to unite for justice and fundamental human rights,” the ICC stated.
In the executive order regarding sanctions against the International Criminal Court, Trump explained the introduction of these measures by the arrest warrants issued by the court for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant. “Malicious behavior threatens to infringe upon the sovereignty of the United States and undermines critically important work in national security and foreign policy for the U.S. government and our allies, including Israel,” Trump believes.
He also stated that the ICC has no jurisdiction over the U.S. and Israel, as these countries are not members of the ICC and have not signed the Rome Statute.
