The collaboration between Estonia and Ukraine in the reconstruction of Zhytomyr region continues.

In an interview with Mind, Ambassador of Estonia to Ukraine Anneli Kolk shared the details.

According to her, Estonia has already helped construct a kindergarten, three family-type children's homes, and a shelter for internally displaced persons. Additionally, the complete reconstruction of a bridge in the city of Malyn has been achieved, with a total expenditure of 2.8 million euros, of which Estonia contributed 1 million euros.

"We chose to focus on the restoration of the Zhytomyr region back in 2022. Estonia is a small country, and the population of Zhytomyr is nearly the same—about 1.2 million people. Therefore, we decided to concentrate our efforts on this single region. Overall, Estonia has invested 29 million euros in reconstruction. However, we also aim to collaborate with international donors," emphasized Kolk.

The ambassador mentioned that Estonian specialists are adhering to the needs plan presented to them by the leadership of Zhytomyr region.

"For 2025, a budget of 12 million euros has been allocated from Estonia, but currently, there are no major infrastructure projects planned. For instance, the construction of large buildings for displaced persons and the establishment of new homes for foster families are on the agenda," noted Kolk.
