The French are planning to launch series production of the luxurious coupe DS SM Tribute, featuring a V6 engine from Maserati. For the production model, the DS SM Tribute may utilize a six-cylinder Maserati engine.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Top Gear.
At the time of the premiere of the avant-garde show car DS SM Tribute, details about its powertrain were unavailable.
As for the original Citroen SM, it was marketed as a sports model and was equipped with V6 engines of 2.7 and 3.0 liters, producing 170-180 horsepower, along with two transmission options: a five-speed manual or a three-speed automatic. The classic SM could accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in approximately 8.5-9 seconds and reached a top speed of 220 km/h.
The concept is based on the Maserati GranTurismo, so if the production car comes to light, it will likely be built on the same platform. This means that Maserati's 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6 Nettuno engine, developing between 490-550 horsepower, may also be adopted.
In a conversation with Top Gear, DS Automobiles' design director Thierry Metroz mentioned that the brand's CEO Olivier François and Stellantis head Carlos Tavares are ready to greenlight the project for a production sports car. However, there is a condition: the model must be profitable.
It is likely that the DS SM Tribute could be released in a limited series of 50 to 200 units. Each of these is expected to cost around 1 million euros.
