Biden: U.S. fighter jets carried out airstrikes on dozens of bases located in Syria.

The President of the United States asserts that this will prevent terrorists from the "Islamic State" from taking advantage of the situation and regrouping.

On December 8, the U.S. Central Command forces launched several dozen strikes against positions of the terrorist group ISIS (Islamic State) in Syria.

“These strikes against ISIS leaders, operatives, and camps were conducted as part of a mission to disrupt, degrade, and destroy ISIS, to prevent the terrorist group from conducting external operations and to stop them from exploiting the current situation to re-establish themselves in central Syria,” stated a release from Central Command.

During the operation, over 75 targets were hit using various U.S. Air Force assets, including B-52, F-15, and A-10 aircraft.

“We fully understand that ISIS will try to take advantage of any vacuum to restore its capabilities. We will not allow this to happen,” said U.S. President Joe Biden while speaking to reporters at the White House. He described the fall of the Assad regime as a “key act of justice.”

“This regime has brutally mistreated, tortured, and killed hundreds of thousands of innocent Syrians. This is a moment of historical opportunity for the long-suffering people of Syria to build a better future for their proud nation,” Biden noted.

He assured that the White House would engage with all Syrian groups during the transition of power and promised to support neighboring countries if they faced threats from Syria during the transitional period.

As reported by AP, Biden stated that the United States is unsure of Assad's whereabouts but is tracking reports that he is seeking refuge in Moscow.

Earlier, Israel struck the headquarters of customs and military intelligence in the Kafr Sousa area of Damascus. This was reported to Reuters by two security sources in the region. According to them, the Israeli military took this action due to concerns that Syrian factions would seize weapons. The agency's sources also indicated that Israel conducted airstrikes on a research center in Damascus, which is believed to be used by Iran for developing long-range missiles.

Background. Earlier, Russian media reported that Bashar Assad arrived in Moscow with his family – his wife and three children. They were granted asylum “for humanitarian reasons.”
